Chicago's deathblackcrust metallers Black September harkens back to the crust/death metal of old Bolt Thrower and the rough majesty of Bathory. This seven-inch single features two original songs entitled "Blood for Oceans" and "Purification". Epic, furious, violently fast and violently slow too, with powerful female vocals. Comes with a fold out 11"x17" poster.

I don't mean to be a "first albums only" elitist or anything of the sort since I didn't even discover these guys til maybe a year and change ago, but truth be told- the demo tracks are my favorites despite Deafheaven's undeniable growth and evolution into a broader sort of awesome. satangutsandchristcorpsepaint

'A World Lit Only By Fire' is an angry and gloomy motherfucker. From the start, you're being battered with pummeling, gritty low end, piercing dissonance and industrial cold. It paints a dystopian picture in my mind - of bulldozers slowly crawling through a wasteland and people hiding in sheer panic, hungry and desperate for a glimpse of hope. But in 'A World Lit Only By Fire', there is no such thing. Simon Sludge

Jordan Vauvert
